DBT-Data is a Force to be Reckoned With

DBT-Data further established itself in the data storage industry as a formidable force with the $35 million dollar purchase of the state of the art Cyber Integration Center on 1175 North Main Street in Harrisonburg Virginia.

Possessing Uptime Institute’s Tier III certification for operation and design, and the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification for power usage, the data center adheres to the stringent requirements and standards of private enterprise and the Federal Government. This is the only data center in Virginia or Maryland that carries the Tier III certification. The certification denotes the risks and security level of the data center’s performance with Tier IV being the highest.

The Cyber Integration Center is built on a total of 13 acres. Its 102,000 square feet is contained to one floor with an expandable capacity of 40,000 square feet. The finished 8,000 square feet of office space features a reception area, restrooms, two cafes, a guard station, 21 offices, a hallway, and an open space. There is 2,000 square feet dedicated to shipping and receiving. A fully conditioned raised floor spans 30,000 square feet and contains three modules with independent infrastructures. Offering 4500kw of power, the additional capacity of 1500kw of reserved power gives the data center a total of 6000kw of IT load conditioned power.

The Cyber Integration Center offers security. It is surrounded by an eight-foot perimeter fence. All areas are covered by indoor and outdoor cameras. Security guards are on duty 24 hours 7 days a week and infrastructure alarms are monitored around the clock. The Cyber Integration Center requires card access into all interior and exterior doors. There are two entrances with a security gate and they feature an intercom equipped with cameras. The main building entrance is protected by an inside guard station.

Carpathia Hosting, Inc., which provides cloud solution services, currently leases 10,000 square feet of the conditioned space. All of the conditioned space has an N+1 high density configuration with the ability to offer a 2N configuration.

The Cyber Integration Center is one of the five data centers owned by DBT-Data in Virginia. DBT Data’s flexible and customizable data solution powerhouse shells consist of an ecologically intelligent design equipped with dedicated power and abundant fibers. According to David Tolson, the president of DBT Development, "DBT is excited about bringing our new Harrisonburg, Virginia data center online as a state of the art facility. Demand for federal government and private sector data storage is enormous in the greater Washington area."

3rd Annual World Congress of Cloud Computing 2014

Today I am proud and honored to announce that I will be participating in this year's 3rd Annual World Congress of Cloud Computing 2014! Highlighting the theme of “Chinese Dream in Cloud” the event will be held in Dalian, China from June 19 to 21, 2014.

CloudCon-2014 aims to strengthen the technical and business ties in cloud computing area, to bring
together experts and industry leaders to share technological advancements and business
experiences, and to jointly explore opportunities in emerging technologies. This congress provides an ideal platform for industrial practitioners and academia to keep up to date with current technology trends, interact with industry experts and network with peers. CloudCon-2014 is presenting an ambitious and unique program based around major themes "Chinese Dream In Cloud", and will feature an exciting line-up of keynote speakers and intense breakout sessions, where lively and interactive debates will take place among the delegates. The newly launched sectors are Parallel Thematic Forums, Frontier Technological Program, and IT/ICT Business Matchmaking and Career Fairs.

Representing the Network Centric Operations Industry Consortium, I will be presenting "Cloud Service Brokerage for International Disaster Response" on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 2:00pm.

Recent high-profile events (2010 Haitian Earthquake, 2011 Tōhoku Earthquake and Tsunami, 2013 Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda) have highlighted the importance played by the international community in humanitarian assistance and disaster response. These events have also showcased the critical importance of quickly providing robust information technology resources to response effort participants. In June 2010, in support its continuing effort to foster international collaboration, the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) initiated a dialog with the Network Centric Operations Industry Consortium (NCOIC) to discuss this and other aspects of geospatial data information-sharing across the international community. In response to this request the NCOIC through the use of a cloud services brokerage paradigm, built and demonstrated a federated cloud computing infrastructure capable of managing the electronic exchange of geospatial data. The effort also led to the development of the more generalized NCOIC Rapid Response Capability Pattern (NRRC), a process which could improve the effectiveness and reduce the cost of emergency situations that require an international joint civilian/military response. This presentation will cover the organizational, technical and operational aspects of building and deploying a federated cloud computing platform. It will also present lessons learned and recommendations for the use of this approach in international humanitarian assistance and disaster response scenarios.

Many thanks to the Organizing Committee of CloudCon-2014 for giving me the opportunity to participate in this prestigious event. I would also like to give thanks the hosting organizations which include:

  • Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China;
  • Ministry of Industry and Information Technologyof the People's Republic of China;
