NRRC Video Series - Video 8 : Raytheon R3 Decision Support Tool and Advanced Tactical System

In September, the NCOIC delivered the Geospatial Community Cloud (GCC) demonstration. Sponsored by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, this demonstration showed how an interoperable, hybrid-cloud operating environment can be quickly enabled and used as a rapid response capability. While this demonstration was designed around lessons learned in the 2010 Haitian Earthquake, the effort showed how a cloud services brokerage approach could be used to quickly provide critical information technology infrastructure support to an unplanned event.

The NCOIC is an international organization for accelerating the global implementation of network centric principles and systems--to improve information sharing among various communities of interest for the betterment of their productivity, interactivity, safety, and security. The NCOIC Rapid Response Capability (NRRC) video series supports that mission by broadly disseminating information about the GCC demonstration for the good of the global community.

In this segment, Don Smith and Brian Urch of Raytheon Intelligence and Information Services show how the Raytheon Readiness, Response and Recovery Decision Support Tool and the RATS application enable collaboration within the cloud. Topics discussed include:
  • Complex event processing and relative scoring model
  • Evidence based decision support
  • Secure Andriod device mobile applications

EITAGlobal and Cloud Expert Kevin L. Jackson Team To Deliver Business Focused Cloud Computing Training

Today I am announcing my partnership with EITAGlobal to produce and deliver a series of business focused training webinars on cloud computing.

Headquartered in Fremont, California, EITAGlobal is a continuing professional education provider with a difference. Their strategy delivers effective and relevant training to IT professionals via three delivery options - Live Webinars, Recorded Webinars and In-person Seminars.

Our first joint event is scheduled for Thursday, January 16th at 10a P / 1pm E. "Augmenting Your Enterprise IT with Cloud Services" will provide insight and lessons learned from the thousands of enterprises that have successfully, and unsuccessfully, traversed the bridge to cloud computing. Attendees will learn proven tools and techniques for designing and executing an effective cloud transition strategy. Critical aspects of business process redesign and organizational change management will be covered as well.

https://www.eitaglobal.com/control/w_product/~product_id=300063LIVE/~Kevin_L_Jackson/~Augmenting_Your_Enterprise_IT_with_Cloud_Services
Cloud computing strategies are completely changing the way entire industries are competing. According to Gartner, fully 75% of all organizations planned to use public cloud services by 2014. Uses include:

  • 54% for development and test
  • 50% for all or most of production compute
  • 54% for all or most of storage
  • 57% to use PaaS for developing applications
Is your cloud strategy now two years old? Have you locked yourself into a single cloud service provider? Do you even have a cloud service strategy?

Why should you attend: While using public cloud computing services to deliver business value and reduce cost remains the #1 priority for most enterprises today, doing so safely without exposing the company to legal risk and financial loss remains the #1 concern. Enterprise decision makers and key contributors all must understand the truths and myths about cloud adoption. This session will provide that information along with lessons learned across many industries on how to effectively, efficiently and safely augment your enterprise IT with cloud services. Tools and techniques for designing and executing an effective transition strategy will also be introduced. Critical aspects of business process redesign and organizational change management will be covered as well.

Areas Covered in the Session:
  • What cloud computing models are enterprises using to provide agility, cost savings and innovation
  • What do viable cloud computing solutions look like
  • How can enterprises take advantage of newly available cloud computing solutions and service providers
  • What are the elements of a viable, implementable cloud computing model
  • Which enterprise applications should be considered for a cloud migration
  • How can you future proof your cloud strategy
  • What business processes/models have been successfully enhanced using cloud computing
  • How do you manage cloud computing transition risk
  • How do you build internal support for a cloud transition
  • When should you "Just Say No" to cloud
Register now for this first installment of my business focused cloud computing education series.

Proud To Be Joining Veterans 360 and Cloud for Vets!

http://vets360.org/

Today I'm proud and honored to announce my appointment to the Board of Advisors for Veterans 360. Their mission is to provide young, recently-separated combat veterans with a program of support that will help them develop the professional and interpersonal skills needed to succeed in civilian life. The goal of this worthwhile organization is to use engagement, education, employment, and healing to help our student-veterans utilize what they have learned to manage the resources that are available to them and become better equipped to ensure a successful transition into civilian life.

My pet project will be, of course, Cloud for Vets. This program will educate young veterans about the emerging cloud computing sector so they can get good paying entry level jobs ($50-$60K) and then work toward becoming Cloud Technology leaders. Vets 360 currently provides the support network and healing components and Cloud for Vets will add the important education component! Better yet, Veterans 360 has California state approval to provide these classes free of charge to  veterans.

The average entry salary in cloud technology is $67,000 and estimates indicate that there will be 1.2 million jobs in cloud technology in the next few years. Cloud for Vets will work toward addressing that demand by certifying up to 40 student-veterans each and every month.

I am pumped about this program and look forward to sharing more with you in the near future!

Take Charge, Lead Change, Do Cloud Right!

The theme for next week’s Gartner Data Center conference, “Taking Charge, Leading Change — Your I&O Transformation Can’t Wait”, is a real wake up call for today’s I&O leaders. Gartner’s focus on operational excellence highlights how the line-of-business and information technology (IT) management are being entangled by the fast moving and ever changing technology landscape. It also showcases today’s leadership challenge of how to transform that entanglement into an interweaved value producing process.

As the lead in managing an organization’s information technology platform, infrastructure and operations (I&O) professional have typically been focused on the technical aspects of provisioning, management, governance and security. This represents only 44% of the IT value chain. While excellence in delivering these component is essential, it is not sufficient. In today’s business environment, the true I&O professional also provides crucial support to the other 56%, the so-called front end of the chain. Here in the front-end is where IT management superstars enable corporate agility and flexibility to their business line and acquisition cohorts. This is also why in the cloud computing age, cloud service brokerage (CSB) is so revolutionary.

CSB capability, either developed internally or acquired through an external partner, has become all the rage because solution integrators and enterprise IT organizations have now recognized the shortcomings of the traditional way of “selling” and “delivering” IT. Today’s I&O Leader must take charge and lead their organization forward into this new way of doing business.

Gravitant recognizes this imperative! That’s why it invested in innovation by delivering an advanced cloud decision engine that normalizes vendor pricing and capabilities, customizes the enterprise cloud service catalog and automates the discovery and synchronization of cloud-based resources. With Gravitant CSB technology, you can now monitor, manage and make evidence based decisions across 100% of your IT value chain.

Be today’s I&O Leader by understanding your environment, understanding your options and understanding your true cloud computing costs before purchase!

Take Charge. Lead Change. Do Cloud Right!
